Tuscany, the land of olive-growing
Tuscany is a welcoming land, a harmonious combination of many different identities.
Rows of cypresses follow the banks of the Arno, and gentle hills fade far into the distance in a landscape of vineyards, olive groves and farmhouses.
With the benefit of a mild climate and wide expanses of fertile soil, olive growing thrives in this land, an activity carried out in line with tradition and respect for the rhythms of nature.
In Tuscany more than elsewhere, the ancient, collaborative work of oil production has contributed to the harmonious development of both the landscape and society. The cooperative behaviour of today’s olive oil producers is actually the legacy of a historical tendency to unite in safeguarding the quality and health of what needs protecting for the common good.
In ancient times, olive-growing was restricted to the area around Lucca and to the Sienese and Florentine hills, but then gradually spread throughout the region. Tuscany now has more than 80,000 hectares given over to olive growing. We are talking about more than 15 million trees, and 80 native olive varieties. The most prevalent of these are the Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino cultivars, used to make an olive oil that is known and loved throughout the world: a medium fruity oil that achieves the right balance between these different varieties.
Toscano PGI extra virgin olive oil
Toscano PGI oil is fully guaranteed and controlled at every stage of its production. The regulations require that every process must take place within the regional boundaries: from the harvesting, to the pressing of olives, to the bottling.
Made from a blend of Frantoio, Moraiolo and Leccino cultivars, Toscana PGI extra virgin olive oil is a bright green oil with iridescent reflections, and with a full and persistent fruity aroma.
Its distinctive feature is its intense flavour, with hints of artichoke and notes of fresh grass. Used straight from the bottle, it is the perfect complement for traditional Tuscan dishes, enhancing soups, game, bruschetta, steak with rocket, and bean salads.
With its strong but well-balanced character, it reflects the honest, proud and ancient spirit of Tuscany.
